Casa de les Punxes / Casa Terrades, Barcelona

Este edificio, cuya arquitectura siempre me llamó la atención, abrió sus puertas al público éste año.

This building, which architecture always attracted my attention, opened its doors to the public this year. 

Diseñado por el arquitecto modernista Josep Puig i Cadafalch, fue construido en 1905, después de que un reconocido empresario textil y agrícola de la ciudad pidiera al artista edificar una casa para cada una de sus tres hijas: Àngela, Josefa y Rosa. Con evidentes aires medievales, el arquitecto consigue unificar los tres edificios de tal forma que parezca uno solo.

Designed by the modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, it was built in 1905, after a famous textile and farming entrepreneur of the city asked the artist to design a house for each one of his daughters: Àngela, Josefa and Rosa. With obvious medieval looks, the architect unites the three buildings so that it seems to be only one. 

La fachada principal hace parte del edificio destinado a la hija mayor y se encuentra en la esquina con la Avenida Diagonal. Para destacar esta categoría, Puig i Cadafalch sitúa dos torres circulares de medida y forma diferentes, y más grandes que las otras situadas en el resto de vértices. La planta baja fue construida en piedra con arcos y columnas decoradas con motivos florales y abstractos. En cambio, en los pisos superiores, el arquitecto prefirió utilizar ladrillo rojo y piedra.

The main façade is part of the building allocated to the oldest daughter and is placed on the corner with Diagonal Avenue. To emphasize this category, Puig i Cadafalch places tow circular towers of a different size and form, and bigger than the ones placed on the other corners. The lower floor was built with stone, with arches and columns decorated with floral and abstract motifs. However, the upper floors, the architect chose red bricks and stones.
