Doing what you love, loving what you do

Today's world is incredibly ambiguous. On the one hand, a considerable importance is given to people who hold a PhD or a master degree, scorning people who have/had a vocational training, self-taught and even some artists, to whom no or little importance is given.

On the other hand some athletes, singers, actors or other self-called artists, who in some cases can barely read or speak correctly even their own language, earn huge amounts of money and get more recognition for their scandals than for their work, much more than for instance doctors, teachers, scientists,... (with or without a PhD!).

So what could we say to the upcoming generations? What is more, how should we consider ourselves, normal working people?

Another question arises when it comes to choosing a profession: is there a good age to do so? Given that sometimes tastes and priorities change, I personally think there is no right age. Some people may find their dream job when they are twenty, others (like me) when they are older. And even if it may shiver down one's spine to decide to change one's job after spending thirteen years there, everyone should do it. We spend a great amount of time working not to love what we do. I personally did it and frankly, I couldn't be professionaly happier than I presently am.

Let's now have a look at Steve Jobs, an incntestable successful person who, by the way, did not have any PhD and who had even left college before graduating as he explained in a speech given at Stanford University. After leaving college only a few months after entering it because he did not like what he was studying, he decided to sign up for a course of calligraphy just because it fulfilled him more. Later on, this course would be one of the grounds for his success at Apple, a company he founded (without having any PhD) and from which he would be fired years later. Despite the many setbacks he faced throughout his life (he was also diagnosed with cancer), Steve Jobs always kept the best attitude and, that is what brought him happiness and rewards in his life.

Personally I became aware of no matter how I earn (as long as I can live normally), I just want to be happy doing what I love.
