Michael Jackson, 6 años / years

For many days, not to say weeks or even months, ideas about why I am a fan of Michael Jackson have been piling up in my head.

It is true, I am not one of these fans who melt watching a video in which the King of Pop is performing, nor one of these who scream when they see the famous “golden pants”… it may be for this reason that some people consider that I am no a “true fan”.

Since ever it has been happening to me with Michael as well as with other singers and actors I follow: what I do is listening to the songs, to the lyrics, to the message that the artist is trying to pass on, listening to the music, to the feeling the artist sings or plays with, things like that. Though I recognize that Michael marks a milestone in the world of video clips and dance with “Thriller” and “Smooth Criminal” for example, and that one can get hooked with them, in my case, the first song that attracts my attention and that I wanted to listen to time and time again was “Heal The World”. I was only 13 years old when I recorded this song to take part in a casting. I could have chosen any other, one in my mother tongue would have been easier, but I didn’t. The humanitarian and environmental message that the King Of Pop, also proclaimed Humanitarian of The Century (a title often forgotten by many people and however so important) had conveyed through these verses had touched me deep inside.

Luego busqué más y los temas que destacaron en mi caso fueron “Earth Song”, “We are The World”, “Will You be There”, “Man in The Mirror”, “Gone too soon” y muchas otros, sin olvidar evidentemente “Someone in the Dark”.
Then I lockheed for more and the songs that stood out for me were “Earth Song”, “We are The World”, “Will You be There”, “Man in The Mirror”, “Gone too soon” and many others, without forgetting obviously “Someone in the Dark”. Later, listening to more songs and above all, becoming an adult and living various situations, I was drawn by his rebelliousness and social criticism with songs like “They Don’t Care About Us”, “Scream” or “Tabloid Junkie”

Entonces, ¿fan?
So, am I a fan? Well, I may call it admirer for all the things he has brought artistically, but also and, as far as I am concerned, above all at a philanthropic, charitable and simply human level.

Recordatorio a Michael Jackson

5 years already…

Today is a strange day, full of feelings that mix up together making me sensitive. You left us suddenly 5 years ago. It was (and it is) a hard time to overcome.

However, I have to say that without your leaving, I wouldn’t have known great and nice people who are now friends, I wouldn’t be part of a Charity that intends to help children throughout the world in your name, maybe I wouldn’t write for destinorock.com as my first entry in this website was about you, perhaps I wouldn’t have traveled yet to the USA and I wouldn’t have known my partner. You’ve been the start concerning my relationship with Sergio, even if another great man with the same name as you helped for the continuation.

I’m not saying that I’m happier because you’re not here anymore or that there’s a “reason” for your departure, what I’m trying to express is that even when you’re not on the Earth anymore, you have been bringing feelings and happiness to people. It’s strange how feelings can merge this way.

One year more, your fans, your friends, will meet tonight in many cities all over the world. We’ll be remembering you, as everyday in fact, but June 25 at night might be a little more symbolic, our thoughts and our heart next to you. Meanwhile, other fans and friends will be physically nearer you, in Forrest Lawn.

Thank you Michael for all what you brought and for all what you bring.

And as you said and sang:

                                                    “I’ll never let you part,
For you’re always in my heart”
